The game of opposites

They attract and complete each other. They are the quintessential non-colours, opposites to one another. Black and white, a chromatic antithesis that has been relaunched over time by designers through a metaphorical re-elaboration of the sense of emptiness and fullness, day and night, candour and mystery.

Bearing witness to this dichotomy, the fashion show of the VBBFW and Haute Couture are the stage where a game of contrasts, sometimes vintage, sometimes futuristic, is played. Graphic inserts for Isabel Sanchis, overlapping for Maggie Sottero, ‘bon ton’ details for Cristina Tamborero and Sophie et Voilà.

Esther Noriega places particular emphasis on the concept of antinomy expressed in black and white, while Sonia Peña tells a contemporary story through a floral fantasy made of numerous romantic shades.

For Haute Couture, a garment very similar to the first Chanel dress walked the Paris runway: a dress in black velvet with a white collar because, according to the couturier, black covered it all, including white, beauty was absolute, it was all perfect harmony.

There are many designers who aim at the refinement of this combination, from Givenchy to Antonio Grimaldi, from Ralph & Russo to Giambattista Valli and Giorgio Armani.

Sobriety and rigour, purity and candour for a romantic and extremely refined impact. An exquisitely elegant combination, also for the wedding day.
